Late Post

Hi everyone! I hope you all had as good of a Christmas as we did. We went to Georgia to spend some of the holidays with family. Thank you to everyone who invited us into your homes. We had such a good time just being able to see everyone. I will be posting pictures soon, I promise.

Chad was able to spend quiet a bit of time with us for the holidays. He had to go back to Norfolk on Sunday, but he was able to spend Christmas day with us.We are already trying to see when he can come home again!

Again, I will be posting some Christmas pictures no later than the end of next week. And to all of our family, it was great seeing all of you. We don't get to see each other enough, so we really appreciate all of the effort you make to get together with us. Enjoy the rest of your holidays!

Gingerbread House

The kids and I made a gingerbread house this past weekend. I got the icing a little too runny as you can see. The kids had a lot of fun though. Can you tell which side of the house Mommy helped with?

PTA Night at Chick-fil-A

The night before Thanksgiving holiday the school had a fundraiser. It was a really easy one too. All we had to do was eat at Chick-fil-A during certain hours. It was very loud with kids running around, but not too crazy. As you can see from the pictures below, there was face painting available. We came straight home and washed it off, but it was fun while it lasted and the red did come out of all of the clothes!

Caitlin with her hearts. Could there be anything more girly?

Caleb had to have Falcon colors painted on his face.

And Ostin was Spider Man. The red got on everything before we got home. I was afraid of stains, but they did a good job of having washable paint.

CF Auction

I made a few things for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Auction that is happening this weekend. I had a lot of fun making these. I'm not very creative and it takes me a while to find a pattern that I like.

The first bracelet is just white glass beads with a silver rose charm on the end.  The bottom bracelet is two different sizes of cat's eye beads, white glass beads and three rose charms. The roses are part of a symbol for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

I made this necklace out of pink roundelle beads, two different sizes of white cat's eye beads, and silver rope spacers. I made the earrings out of the pink roundelle beads.

This necklace is made out of green cat's eye beads and yellowish colored disk beads. I really like the earth tones of this necklace.

Color vs Grey

Today Caleb is home sick. He has been sick since Thursday evening, but I think we are on the road to recovery. He feels almost good as new, he just is not fully recovered yet.

He's taking it easy lying on the couch watching tv. He's watching Cars. I'm not sure what part of the movie he is at, but it triggered a question from him. Our conversation went something like this.

Caleb: Mom when were you born?
Me: 19...
Caleb: Really?
Me: Yes. When did you think I was born?
Caleb: I don't know, the 1950s maybe?
Me: Okay.
Caleb: Back in the 19s, did they have color?
Me: Yes.
Caleb: Oh. I thought they might have had just grey back then. I didn't know they had color.

I really never expected to have this conversation with any of my children. I honestly thought that it only happened in a Calvin and Hobbes strip. I can now say that this really does happen and more frequently than most people think. As for myself, I think I need a nice long, hot shower. And to maybe find something that makes me feel young again!

Fifteen?????

So tonight we had to take Chad to the airport. He is on his way back to Virginia. We are now counting down the days until Thanksgiving. He will be back home for that. This is probably going to spoil us. All of these holidays that he will get to be back home all together like this. But that's okay, we'll take what we can get when we can get it.

Anyway. Tonight on the way to the airport, Ostin asked Chad a question."Daddy, when I'm firteen can you teach me how to drive?"

"You have to be fifteen before you can learn how to drive" was Chad's response.

Ostin said, "Fifteen? That's a lot of years!"

I am now really dreading my birthday next month. I wonder what he will think when he finds out how old I am!

Tomorrow night

A little background info for you. Chad's new duty station is in Virginia. We decided that the kids and I would stay in Florida while he is stationed there. There were quiet a few factors involved (the house, schools, etc.).

Chad has been up there for a couple of weeks now. We talked about getting him home as often as we could. So.... he is flying in tomorrow night! I know he hasn't been gone that long, but with the military you fully enjoy any time you get to be together. I'm really excited and it is a surprise for the kids. They won't know until they wake up and see him Wednesday morning. And they have the day off from school.

I hope we will get other chances to have times like this again. We will just be thankful for this time we will have together and have hope for the future.

While the cat's away

So yesterday, I had the misfortune to wake up sick. I won't gross you out with the details, but I was pretty much down for the count for most of the day. I did feel slightly better by lunch time and was able to keep down a bowl of soup. My kids pretty much had free run of the house and had to fend for themselves. I probably would have felt very guilty about this if I had been able to stay upright for more than five minutes.

I wasn't able to get up and do anything until around dinner time. I had finally gotten hungry and thought that the kids had better have one full meal for the day. As I walked out of my bedroom the chaos of the day hit me in the face. There was barely any room on the floor to see the carpet. I will say that they were kind enough to keep all food in the kitchen and at the bar. I settled for having a path to their rooms last night so they could actually go to bed. So this morning I got up with anticipation of cleaning, alot of cleaning.

I would have posted some pictures, but I was bummed out enough and didn't want to add mortification on top of it. While I know everyone would understand, I really didn't want the permanent reminder. I'm hoping to forget about it soon, probably to be replaced by another, bigger mess.

Halloween 2009

Halloween. Not a whole lot to say. We all had fun going around the neighborhood trick or treating. The kids had fun but they were very hot when we got back home.

Here are my three. Buzz, Duke (from GIJOE), and princess Lucy from Narnia.

Ostin is Buzz Lightyear.

Caleb is Duke, the leader of the good guys.

Caitlin is Princess Lucy from the Narnia movie.

This is the crown I made her from a headband, wire, fishing line, and an old necklace we found in London at a market.

Here is the gang: Caleb, Courtney, Angelina, Caitlin, and Ostin. We went trick or treating with the neighbors Courtney and Angelina. Angelina bailed out before the older ones were done.

London

Chad and I went to London a couple of weeks ago. We had a great time! Here are a few pictures that we took.

Buckingham Palace at night. The guards are still there, it is just hard to see them in the dark.

Chad and I in front of Tower Bridge. The only picture we had taken of the two of us together.

Big Ben

Chad with a storm trooper. This one was for the kids.

Getting Started

Okay, so this is a first for me. I'm trying this out as a way to keep relatives updated on the happenings within our home. I hope I'll get better at this as time goes on. Please be patient as I figure out how this is all done.
