Ostin cut his head again last night. While I sadly felt better prepared this time, I did wish for a few minutes that Chad was here and so did Ostin. On the way to the emergency room, he said that if Daddy was here then he could hold the rag on his cut. I think Ostin's arm was getting tired of holding it on. Pictures of the lovely stitches are below.

Getting Old
My conversation with Ostin this morning:
Ostin - Where did Daddy get his pocket knife?
Me - I don't know.
Ostin - Well, can we call him and ask him?
Me - No, you can ask him when you are older and are ready for a pocket knife.
Ostin - But if I wait until then, he'll be old and won't remember where he got it.

Surprise!
Chad came home early from deployment. He just showed up at the front door yesterday morning. We decided to go and surprise the kids at school and take them home for the rest of the day. Here's a video of the kids seeing Daddy!

Painting Pottery
I took the kids out to paint pottery today. They all had a good time. The boys were finished way before Caitlin was though.

Real Men
This morning Caleb found a McDonald's toy that he had not opened. He kept getting frustrated because the little man would not stand up on his own. He asked Ostin how he got his guy to stand up. This is the following conversation from that point:
Ostin: He just stands on his legs.
Caleb: He won't!
Ostin: Look inside the bag and read the instructions.
Caleb: I don't need any stupid instructions. I know how to do it already.
That's right - real men don't need instructions.
(Of course, he ignored my comment of how he was the one asking how to work the toy, so he obviously did need instructions.)

Snap, Krackle, Pop!
This morning Caleb was eating Cocoa Krispies for breakfast and he got into a conversation with Ostin about the names of the guys on the box. Caleb was asking why they were named Snap, Krackle, and Pop. Ostin's answer? Snap is named Snap because he snaps a lot, Krackle because he krackles and Pop? Well, Pop is named Pop because he is a pop, you know, like a dad. That last one kind of broke the pattern I was expecting.

Love
Happy Anniversary to my wonderful husband. There are times when it seems like we got married just yesterday and times I've felt like we've been married forever. Here's to another 15 years and many more!

Toys That Scare
We were at Target today looking around. I let the kids wander around in the toy section. We were moving along and Ostin was dragging a little bit looking at the dinosaurs. They have those rubbery dinosaurs that move around and are triggered by movement in front of them. Well, Ostin was looking at these and trying to make them all move. Most of them just moved their heads and roared. But.... as I turned my head to tell him it was time to go (again!), the one he had his hand in front of gave a lurch forward, moved it's wings and made a high pitch sound. I don't think I've ever seen him jump so high! It was one of those moments when I really wanted him to do it again just so I could get documentation of it to show everyone. I just about doubled up on the floor right there in the middle of Target. Man, I really wish I could have gotten that on camera.

Disney January 2011
Here are some pictures from our Disney day trip. We went down for Caitlin's performance at Downtown Disney. We didn't go to any of the parks, we just stayed in the Marketplace and went to the Lego store and the Disney store. We had fun, but it was cold and windy. I think it would have been a nice day if the wind wasn't blowing, but it was picking up off the water and had so much moisture in it that it was just bone chilling.
Lego store.

Kid Conversation
This is what I overheard between Ostin and Caleb this morning:
Caleb: Look, a spider web.
Ostin: Let the spider bite you and then you can be Spiderman.
Caleb: Yeah, but then I can beat you up.
Don't you just love the way my son's mind works. No thought about any other kind of super powers he would get, just that he'd be able to beat up his brother.
